One of the main recent developments is the advent of contactless payment technology. You are no doubt familiar with Chip and PIN machines, where you enter your card into a machine in a shop and then authorise your payment by entering your PIN (or Personal Identification Number). This system was to replace the old system of signing for your purchases, with the aim of making payments faster and more secure.
Now, contactless payments are streamlining the process even further and they are set to become more popular in the months and years ahead – perhaps even as popular as credit cards with 0% interest! Contactless payments work like this. You have a credit card that has a special chip in it. The shop where you are making a purchase has a special contactless payment machine. Once your purchases have been rung through and you need to pay, you simply hold your card over the machine until it authorises – and that’s that.
The process is much faster and means it is ideal for busy modern lives. At present, it is only possible to make small purchases using contactless payments and only a few credit cards use the technology, but it is becoming more popular all the time and an increasing number of retailers are making use of it, too. This means you should definitely be keeping a watch out for more of these features in the years to come.
