Limited Time Offer: Chase Freedom Now Offering $200, Straight Cash

Written by David Long on June 30, 2011 – 2:45 am

It seems like just yesterday (it was yesterday) that I commented on how Chase is pulling out all the stops with signing bonuses lately, especially on travel rewards credit cards. And now theyve done the same for the cashback crowd, by bumping the bonus on the Chase Freedom card from $150 to $200.

Mind you, these arent miles, so you dont have to deal with the blackout dates and other restrictions that plague travel bonuses.  This is cold, hard, cash (or technically, a check). You do have to spend $1,500 over a period of 6 months to make it happen, but then Chase will credit you with 20,000 points that you can immediately redeem for $200.

Its though, so strike while the irons hot:

Earlier in the year, the credit card landscape was all about blockbuster rewards deals.  Citi was offering 75,000 AAdvantage miles, Capital One offered up to 100,000 No Hassle Miles, and Chase was offering 100,000 BA Miles.  But now that the smoke on these deals has cleared, it seems like the countrys #1 credit card issuer is trying a different tactic.

Rather than having a single premier card with an absurd signup bonus, they are increasing the bonuses on almost all of their cards, and also adding perks. Fo

Father’s Day and the Vacation Dilemma

Written by Jennifer Ward on June 29, 2011 – 5:58 pm

A widely quoted recent study done by American Express says that only 46 percent of business owners are planning to take a vacation this year — down from 67 percent in 2006. Given the economy, gas prices and rising airfares, this probably will surprise few business owners. For entrepreneurs, the decision of whether to take a vacation can be complicated and gut-wrenching.

People offer many reasons for going into business for themselves. One of the more common ones you hear is, “Being able to come and go as I please.” Some experienced owners will find that both funny and sad — and more than a little ironic. Many people who go into business to find freedom end up a slave to the business, at least for a while. Maybe a long while. Maybe forever. For these people, the notion of taking a vacation is completely foreign — either because of money constraints or because they don’t have someone to run the business or because they suffer from a combination of fear, anxiety, guilt and obsessiveness. Maybe it is just me, but I doubt it.

As I’ve said many times, running your own business is very different than having a job. No one awards you a two- or three-week vacation. If you take o

Overstock.com MasterCard Review

Written by David Long on June 29, 2011 – 4:05 pm

Most retail credit cards are bad deals, but the Overstock.com MasterCard is one of the best retail credit cards out there. It’s so good, George Yacik (our credit card reviewer) gives it 5 stars! The cash rewards you earn on the already-low prices at Overstock means more money in your pocket. But, like all rewards credit cards, you must pay your balance in full every month to avoid finance charges that negate the rewards you earn.
